Thursday 7 May, 2009 – The Volvo Ocean Race is to move its headquarters from the South Coast of England to Alicante, Spain. The Mediterranean city will become both the starting port and the home of the race for the next three editions.

Ericsson 4 Leads Volvo Fleet In Tough Conditions For Start

Leg 1: Day 1: 1330 GMT– The long-awaited start day of leg one of the 10th running of the Volvo Ocean race dawned grey and very windy in Alicante, just as the forecasters had predicted, but it did not dampen the spirits of the 88 sailors who have been anxious to get this 6,500 nautical mile to Cape Town underway.

Volvo Ocean Race: Time To Go Racing

Alicante (Spain) – 10 October 2008 – The waiting is nearly over and the 10th running of the Volvo Ocean Race starts the first of its 10 offshore legs at 1400 CET tomorrow from Alicante in Spain.  But for some, it has been a wait too long and the 88 sailors taking part in this ocean epic are impatient to cross the start line and do what they do best: go sailing.

Team Delta Lloyd Completes the Fleet as Alicante Gears Up for Volvo Ocean Race Village Opening

Alicante (Spain) –  18 September 2008 –  Team Delta Lloyd (Ger O’Rourke IRL) has arrived safely in Alicante with a day and a half in hand before the official opening of the Race Village tomorrow night, 19 September.  The team, which used the six-day crossing from Cork as its 2,000-mile qualifier, is the last team to reach the start port joins the other seven boats completing the fleet of eight.
