Pressure Is On As Ericsson 4 and Puma Lead At Start Of Volvo Ocean Race Leg Four

The Volvo Ocean Race returned to the race track today in Singapore when the gun fired signifying the start of the 2,500 nautical mile leg to Qingdao in China, the leg most crews consider will be one of the most difficult and brutal legs of the race.  Never in this history of the race has there been a leg like this, where the fleet will be sailing upwind for such an extensive distance.  The difference between racing and surviving is taken very seriously and all skippers are predicting the need to ease back when conditions worsen.

Cold and Dangerous Waters Ahead

Leg four of the Volvo Ocean Race, from Singapore to Qingdao (2,500 nm), promises to be among the hardest sections of this edition of the race. Before the finish in China, the crews are expected to encounter difficult upwind conditions, freezing temperatures, and boat-breaking sea states caused by strong winds battling fierce currents.

Ericsson 4 Wins UBS Challenge For The In-Port Race In The Volvo Ocean Race Singapore

Ericsson 4 won the UBS Challenge for the In-Port Race in the Volvo Ocean Race in Singapore today after finishing second in race one and winning race two.  The result earned the team the four maximum points on offer which extends their total to 39 points.

Delta Lloyd Safely Finishes Leg Three

Roberto Bermudez de Castro/ESP brought the crippled Delta Lloyd across the finish to complete leg three of the Volvo Ocean Race from Cochin in India, at 2007 GMT tonight, after 10 days, 10 hours, 7minutes and five seconds (elapsed time 10:10:7:5), more than 24 hours after Bouwe Bekking and Telefónica Blue scored their first leg win of the event.

Fifth Place for Telefónica Black

Fernando Echávarri from Spain brought Telefónica Black through the finish in Singapore today in fifth place at 1736 GMT (0136 local time), after racing for nine days, seven hours, 36 minutes and 23 seconds (09:07:36:23).
